The first photo-illustrated medical book published in Spain, as well as the first book on dermatology to be published in that country, this with special emphasis on the symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases such as herpes and syphillis. Though the author had planned on adorning the work with more photographs, his choice of using syphilitic prostitutes as his models gave the publishers pause, their solution being to use color chromolithographs after the originals. Exceedingly uncommon in North America, with only three copies located in OCLC as of November, 2017, at the New York Academy of Medicine, Indiana U., and the NLM.
